2. The Water Resources Department has been entrusted with the following works.
(a).Collection of Hydrological Data, compilation, processing and hydrological designs.
(b).Planning and Investigation of Major and medium Irrigation projects.
(c).Construction and maintenance of On-going and Existing Major and Medium Irrigation Projects
(d).Resolving Inter State Water Dispute problems.
(e).Command Area Development activities.
(f).Research, Development and training works.
(g).Maintenance and monitoring of machineries in Water Resources Department.
(h).Monitoring & Evaluation of the Irrigation Projects.
(i).Administrative matters of the entire Water Resources Department.(k)Latest techniques & softwares are used to investigate projects in Geomatics center.
3. The following Zones, Authorities, Research Station and Institutions are assisting the Water Resources Department in achieving the above entrusted work

4.Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited is constituted as per the Hon'ble Chief Minister announcement made in the budget speech vide G.O.No. WRD/32/KBN/2003 dated 12-5-03. Cauvery Neeravari Nigam came to existence on 4-6-2003 vide Regd No.32044. The Nigam is proposed to raise Rs.1500 crores in the period of 3 years for completion of all ongoing works and Modernisation of completed projects in Cauvery basin.
5. The Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited was incorporated in 1998 under the company’s act, as a wholly owned company of the Government of Karnataka to expedite the completion of the On-going Irrigation Projects in Krishna Valley. This is the second company in the state, the first being Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited which was incorporated in 1994 to complete the Upper Krishna Project. The state government has transferred 10 projects to the KNNL for implementation, out of 28 major & Medium Irrigation Projects in Krishna Basin. The Managing Director, Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limitedis in-charge of this corporate body.
6. The state has constituted “Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited” under the company’s Act of 1956 with a view to expedite the works of Upper Krishna Project by mobilising additional resources required for project through private and public issue of Bonds/Debentures. The Managing Director, Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited is in-charge of this corporate body.
