BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF D. DEVARAJ URS (VARUNA) CANAL PROJECT 

            The Scheme D. Devaraj Urs (Varuna) Canal (Also called as Krishnarajasagara Right Bank Canal) envisages construction of a canal of length 135 kms (84 miles) on the Right Bank of existing Krishnarajasagara Reservoir.  It is proposed to take off the canal at + 60.00 level, at a distance of 131 m from the existing sluice on the Right Bank from the fore-shore of the Reservoir to irrigate an area of 80,000 acres (32,375 ha) benefiting Mysore, T-Narasipura, Heggadadevanakote and Nanjangud Taluks of Mysore District and Sreerangapatna taluk of Mandya district, with an ultimate utilisation of 10.5 tmcft.

            It is proposed to raise Khariff semi-dry to an extent of 80,000 acres Rabi Semi-dry to an extent of 59,500 acres.
